How do greeter tours compare with “free walking tours”

In many tourist destinations you will find so called “free walking tours”. These tours are great and we like them. They are professionally organized tours with knowledgeable guides.

Greeter tours, or just “greets” as we call them, are different from that.

  • Greets are personal encounters.
  • Greets are not classical city tours.
  • We do not combine people from different requests into one larger group.
  • Greets are truly free. We do not take tips.

Greets are personal encounters with a local who shows you his/her city. You will hear relatively few historic facts and figures. It’s your chance to chat with a local and to immerse into daily life in Innsbruck.

Imagine you travel to Rome in Italy and your sister happens to have a friend there. She gets you in touch with that friend and you have the opportunity to meet her and spend a few hours together. Would you want to walk from landmark to landmark about which you could read all the facts from your guide book? Or would you rather spend that precious time with a local to stroll her neighbourhood, discover a beautiful cafe hidden in a backyard, chat about life in Rome, see what the Romans love in their city?

A greet is just that: a meeting with a friend that you didn’t know before.
